Here’s a list of the current problems I’ve initially come across with Talisman making and hopefully this thread can sum up the big issues harming the class:
1: It needs too many items
It’s currently next to impossible, unless your in a guild with lots of other crafters to get the crafting items you need, especially as they come from a variety of professions. The AH isn’t being used much on my server at the moment so that may fill up but it still looks like buying the materials will cost a lot more than a talisman should be worth. Also, it clogs up your bag space having so many craft related items
2: You need to get to 25 far too early
I’m not sure on the exact level that talismans start needing 25 skill but it’s around rank 8-9. As you whizz through these levels you stand no chance of getting enough drops.
3: Remove timed talismans
What good is an 8 hour +2 stat talisman? It’s essentially a pathetic buff (and an incredibly expensive one at that). If we’re going to have timed ones, at least give them better stats than non-timed ones. They’re pretty much junk.
4: Confusing in general
The Talisman making screen isn’t amazingly clear. There are scores of people who think they’ve never found a talisman trainer because they’re called “hedge wizards”. I know that’s part of the lore but there’s nothing that gives any indication that they are the ones to go to for talisman training. Also, where is the Hedge Wizard in altdorf? All the other trainers/vendors are easy to find, running around for ages in the city didn’t find it and I had to fly back to a chapter 2 location to stock up on items.
5: other professions are easier in comparisson
heading sums it up
6: No drops from PQs or in general
Other professions seem to get plenty of drops but, other than the salvaging drops, I’ve never seen a drop or reward that Talisman makers need.
Am I whining too much or are these the problems that need to be addressed?

No, u are not whining. Every thing u said is pure truth. Except u didnt mention bugs. I, for example, cant even apply these pathetic talismans, it just wont allow. Not to mention it took me ages to figure out u need to have salvaging in order to get fragment.

I can but completely agree with you. Being a Salvager and Talisman creator myself, I fully support your sum-up of ‘Flaws’ with capital ‘f’
I am currently level 10 with Salvaging at 5 and Talisman Creating at a rediculous 3.
I salvaged everything I could so far, I even had to salvage a Blue quality Rapier and did NOT skill up from it.. I hope this will be adjusted very soon, before our own Rank is basically too high to level our tradeskills from the drops/rewards we get.

I found that having multiple characters with the different crafting / gathering proffesions help. The only drawback is the level difference between the items needed to be gathered and the actuall level of the character. The mail system kind of sucks becuase the cost to send an item is too much for my taste and there is a 20 second wait before you can send another item (one item at a time) Having a bank character will be a pain to upkeep. And when will we be given extra bag slots? Maintaning room for proffesion items and random loot / gear is retarded.

Yes Talisman making is a bit confusing. I just happened to talk the hedge wizard, because of years of starting mmorpgs from day 1. I know that every game no matter how hard the dev team try is not flawless. Now I will let you in on a secret I have informed my guild mates of, in tier 1 warcamp go buy the squigherder boots from the renown vendor. 2sp and some copper. Not sure on exact price, but they are dirt cheap then every other classes equal lvl boots. You will be 25+ b4 you know it. Next thing don’t expect to make tons of money on this from the starting gate. Not going to happen, sorry. We had a few folks in guild that believed a +2 str/int/will/wounds/resists for 8hours was as u said pathetic buff, but if you have an empty talisman slot you are only screwing yourself out of an added stat for a few hours. Next thing I have to address is everybody keeps saying PQ loot, well don’t forget the influence loot for every chapter also. Some players I have met along the way only do a PQ once, No NO NO, you need to grind influenece out on PQs easiest and fastest way to get those influence rewards. Not to mention extra gear you already have from your first PQ green bag. Salvage time.
The problem I see with Talisman Making is that mythic rushed it out, because there is no PQ loot containers like Vials for Apoth profession. Then comes the real back breaker, where are the 25+ boxes all we can get our hands on are the 1+ and all those 25+ mats you use are restricted in the under 25+ skill lvl. Our cap city is lvl 2 and we have a lvl 9 guild so the theory of that being where the vendor is has been flawed. So can somebody tell me where I can get the 25+ boxes? Or is this another part of the Talisman making prof. that has been a victim of rushed content?

I have just started out on warhammer and wanted to do talisman making. Finding it very difficult. I agree with all of the above and would like to add this:-
It is not very clear - example it needs fragments. The only fragment I have come across so far is chittin fragment and it does not work. I have been asking around on the server but no-one seems to want talk or give advice. From what I’ve read on the internet (doing research for talisman making) this seems to be a common failure.

Unfortunately, with all the mmorpg, they make the professions to difficult for my taste. For me, the professions are there to spice things up, give you something to do in between quests, not to make you develop alts to help you level up in a particular profession. That’s just insane to me.
So, after taking Talisman making–against my better judgment–I find my character at level 13, with lvl 28 salvaging and lvl 6 or 7 Talisman making.
The amount of time and money required to level up in Talisman making is no longer fun for me. It’s now a job that requires me to run back to lower levels and farm.
I’m not a farmer.
Good luck. If you like the challenge that these additional professions require, then you’ll love Talisman Making. For me, it’s just a bloody waste of my time.

How Talisman Works:
This by no means is exhaustive, but for all of you who are getting started, this is what I’ve learned:
You need:
1 Container
2 Gold
3 Currio
4 Essence
5 Fragment
You can buy 1-4 at the vendors.
Fragments you get from salvaging items. However, a lot of salvage attempts will yield you Echoes or Whispers. [Once you have enough of the same kind of Echos or Whispers (usually 5 or 10), right click on it and it will either turn into another stronger Echo or Whisper or it will turn into an Essence.] When you are blessed enough to salvage a Fragment, stop and celebrate!
After you have that precious Fragment, you can open your Talisman making icon.
It’s a very confusing interface–I’m assuming very little-to-no user testing was done. First, you must put in the box (or container), and then you have to put in the Fragment, and then the Gold, then the Curio, and finally the Essence (for some odd reason you’ve got to place these ingredients in a specific order–I think this is it).
Note that most of the Talismen you make only last for about 2 hours (esp at the lower levels). Therefore, you’re farming for a few hours to make 1 Taliman that will last you only a short period of your playing time.
Unfortunately, this is as far as I got as I’ve decided to enjoy playing my character and leaving the farming to the agriculturally inclined.
But I should note, a guild member has reached level 100 of Talisman–so it can be done. But he did caveat it by saying that unless you have an alt, lots of money, and don’t mind logging on to play for the specific purpose of farming, then you should probably pick another profession. He did not suggest which one.
Good luck!

My skills are salvaging (lvl 60) and talisman making (lvl 28). It is WAY to difficult to find lvl 25 fragments and higher! Gold dust and curio items regularly drop from monsters - if you have a scavenger in your party or guild it is very easy to obtain them.
Essences can be salvaged from ruined equipment (as mentioned above), but the fragments themselves (the main ingredient in a talisman) are hard to find.
Christine; you can buy lvl 1 frags from any merchant. There are 4 different kinds; strength, ballistics, willpower and intelligence I think.
After playing a while I think talisman making is just not worth the effort. Cultivating is easier and you find seeds everywhere, I’m currently at lvl 134.
My advice is - if you get stuck at lvl 15+, 40+, 65+ etc, go find a seargant at a Battlefield Objective. There’s usually three different kind of bonuses, and if you find the one called Artisan’s Gift you’ll get +10 in ALL your crafting skills. Then you can use 50+ fragments and essences even if your at lvl 40.
For example, in Barak Varr you’ll find the seargant at the Lighthouse. NB that your realm has to control the zone (i.e. the keep) for this to work. Good luck.

And, Razenous - I have not even seen a 25+ container for talisman making… Not sure it exists although theoretically, it should, since an apothecary can use several different vials.
